Booking a Trip

We are located in Idaho in the St. Joe National Forest on a special use permit from the U.S. Forest Service.  Vehicles are left at our base camp, approximately 3 1/2 hours by car from Spokane, Washington or 2 1/2 hours from Missoula, Montana.  The last ten miles are a little "slow going," but any standard automobile can make the trip quite safely.  If you are flying, both Spokane and Missoula have good airline schedules, and rental cars are available in either city.  We can aid you in lodging and transportation planning, just let us know at the time of booking.  Trips begin at our base camp at 10 A.M. on the first day.  We pack out after lunch on the last day of the trip.

What to Bring

Clothing: Weather in the mountains can vary greatly at any time of the year.  It can be short sleeve weather during the day and downright chilly at night.  Along with your other personal gear, we recommend that you bring a good warm jacket and rain gear, just in case.  Leather boots are the best footwear for riding and hiking.  Also, fisherman bring your waders and felt soled wading boots.

It's a big help to have your gear in canvas duffel bags or soft-sided luggage.  We suggest that you do not bring suitcases to be packed in.

Fishing gear and license. Hard tubes to protect your fishing rods are highly recommended .

Although the cabins contain beds with mattresses, each person will need to bring a sleeping bag.

We will send you a complete list of recommended fly fishing equipment and flies at the time of booking.
